Cirrus SR22T

The MSFS 2024 Cirrus SR22T: a turbocharged four-plus-one-seat piston single with Perspective+ glass and a whole-airplane parachute. Numbers come from the FAA type certificate (TCDS A00009CH) and the SR22T POH (P/N 13772-005). The procedures follow that POH and were checked against Cirrus's SR22 Perspective+ POH (P/N 13772-006) and abbreviated checklist (P/N 13728-014). Speeds are in KIAS (knots indicated airspeed) unless marked, and the sim's own quirks are listed separately. Editions, the EFB, SimBrief, the checklist panel and key bindings are in sim basics. Radio calls are in ATC comms. For a simpler trainer first, see the Cessna 172.

Profile

Which SR22 is it? The sim ships the SR22T (turbo, Continental TSIO-550-K), not the normally aspirated SR22 (IO-550-N, 310 hp, 2,700 RPM). Asobo and Working Title built it as a G6 with Perspective+ avionics for MSFS 2020 Sim Update 14 (December 2023), and MSFS 2024 carries it over. The edition lists call it "Cirrus SR22"; the SU14 announcement and the MSFS 2024 feedback thread call it the SR22T.

KTAS is true airspeed: what the airplane actually does through the air, higher than KIAS at altitude. Perspective+ is Cirrus's name for its Garmin G1000 NXi integration.

Speeds

Weight 3,600 lb unless noted. V-speeds are the standard reference speeds: Vr rotate, Vx best angle, Vy best rate, Vfe max flap speed, Vno max structural cruise (yellow arc above), Vne never exceed, Vpd max demonstrated parachute deployment.

A typical IFR trip in the SR22T. Plan and send the route from the EFB or SimBrief as in sim basics; the clearance and radio calls are in IFR departure.

StepWhat to do
1. loadsend the EFB plan to the avionics; check it on the MFD FPL page
2. proceduresPROC: departure, then arrival and approach once you know the runway
3. altitudesset the altitude preselect to the first cleared altitude; add VNAV constraints on the FPL page
4. takeoffhand-fly, then AP on after climb-out
5. climbFLC 120 KIAS full rich, or 130–140 lean of peak
6. levelALT captures at the preselect; set cruise power and lean
7. descentset the lower altitude first, then VNV follows the computed path (VNAV: vertical navigation)
8. approachactivate the approach, APR, slow to 90–95, then configure

Autopilot (GFC 700) modes on the GMC 707 mode controller:

ModeDoes
APengages the autopilot in the modes shown at the top of the PFD
FDflight director cues only
HDGfollows the heading bug
NAVfollows the active GPS or VOR/LOC course
APRarms the approach: LOC and glideslope, or GPS lateral and vertical guidance (LPV, LNAV/VNAV)
ALTholds the current altitude
VSholds a vertical speed
FLCflight level change: pitches to hold an airspeed while power sets climb or descent rate
VNVfollows the FMS vertical path and altitude constraints
LVLblue button: wings level and zero vertical speed; cancels other modes; your "get me out of here" button

Tips:

  • There is no autothrottle: FLC climbs need full power set by hand, and descents need power reduced by hand.
  • The 3-to-1 rule checks the VNAV top of descent (TOD): 3 NM per 1,000 ft to lose, so 9,000 ft needs about 27 NM.
  • ILS or LPV: approach active, NAV source correct, APR armed before the final approach fix.

Emergencies

Paraphrased from the SR22T POH (13772-005) section 3 and checked against the Perspective+ POH (13772-006) section 3 (pp. 3-11 to 3-43), section 3A for cautions (pp. 3A-9 to 3A-14) and section 10 for CAPS (pp. 10-5 to 10-8). Rows marked "turbo only" exist only in the SR22T book. Those POH sections are the full reference.

touchdownabout like a drop from 13 ft; the airframe is likely written off

Safe Return and autoland

The sim's SR22T is a G6: it has no Safe Return. Real Cirrus added Garmin's Safe Return emergency autoland to the SR series with the G7+ (2025). For an automatic emergency landing in MSFS, use the Vision Jet.

For radio calls in an emergency (Mayday, 7700), see emergencies and lost comms.

For a flight you've already planned in the EFB.

EFB -> send to avionics; FPL page: check every waypoint
PROC: departure; altitude preselect = first cleared alt
Takeoff by hand; AP on; NAV + FLC 120 KIAS
Level: 30.5 inHg or less, lean to the cyan target
Arrival: PROC -> arrival + approach; VNAV constraints
Descent: preselect lower altitude, VNV, power back
Approach: activate, APR, 90-95 KIAS, flaps 50% then 100%

Lean-of-peak cruise

After leveling off.

Power 30.5 inHg or less; RPM 2,500
Wait for the cyan target cue on the fuel-flow gauge
Pull mixture slowly to the cue (or 50-75 F lean of peak TIT)
Rough running -> a touch richer
Any CHT above 420 F -> 0.5 gal/h leaner (about -15 F)

Engine-out glide practice

Set a failure in the sim's failures menu at 5,000 ft AGL or higher.

Pitch for 92 KIAS immediately; trim
Nearest airport on the MFD; turn toward it
Fuel selector other tank, ignition BOTH, pump BOOST
Power 1/2, mixture from cutoff slowly forward
No restart: glide ~1.4 NM per 1,000 ft AGL
Decide by 2,000 ft AGL: field made, or CAPS

CAPS practice (sim only)

To see the sim's parachute, not a technique to copy.

Level at 5,000 ft AGL or higher, slow to about 100 KIAS
Ceiling: remove cover, pull the red T-handle
Mixture CUTOFF, fuel OFF, pump OFF, masters OFF
Watch the descent rate (compare with Sim quirks)

  1. Cirrus's spec page quotes 1,021 NM for the current SR22T, at 55% power. The 812 NM above is the POH table for 85% power at 25,000 ft after a full-power climb, keeping a 45-minute IFR reserve. ↩

  2. The SR22T POH (13772-005 §3) gives about 8.6:1 and 14.2 NM from 10,000 ft AGL. The non-turbo SR22 Perspective+ POH (13772-006 fig. 3-1) gives 8.8:1 and 14.5 NM. Both use 92 KIAS. ↩
